Castlevania is a multi-generational video game series developed and published by Konami. The franchise was first released in 1986, but has evolved from a side-scrolling platformer into a full-scale adventure series – and has sold over 20 million copies worldwide.

It starts with a 5 page introduction, telling the story of the Castlevania franchise and the context in which LoS was created and developped (including the participation of Kojima). The first 143 pages are dedicated to the characters, starting with Gabriel Belmont over 6 pages. It features illustrations, concepts and texts.

Then there’s Dracula, with more pages showing some amazing artworks and research on his attacks. The next 27 pages describe several members of the Belmont family.

In addition to the usual images, it also contains several pages of storyboard (sorry for the lack of photos here). The next part, from page 72 to page 111, is a gathering of various characters behind the title “Allies and enemies”. Once again, concept arts, model sheets, illustrations and so on.

After that, there’s a couple of pages about Gabriel’s weapons: The next 27 pages, describe the many monsters of Castlevania’s bestiary: And to conclude the book, what remains of the pages is dedicated to the many environments you can explore in these games. Some of the pages are gorgeous and there’s even the map of act 3 from Mirror of Fate, which is a nice addition to the book. If you like the dark and nightmarish style of Castlevania - Lords of Shadow, then this book will be a great addition to your library, it’s big, heavy and well illustrated and documented.
